Documenting the work as it happens

Announcements, program updates and stories from the women and enterprises SWEEF works with. The Foundation publishes what it learns, including what does not work.

SWEEF is constituted as a Somali-led, women-focused development foundation, with a mandate spanning ten interconnected economic sectors.

Program updates

Updates from SWEEF’s first programs will be published here as implementation begins.

Enterprise stories

Stories documenting women-led enterprises will follow once programs are under way and participants have consented to be featured.

Why this page is nearly empty

SWEEF was established on 1 September 2026. Rather than fill this section with generic content, the Foundation has built the structure and will populate it with real material. Every story published here will describe something that actually happened, with the informed consent of the women featured.

Editorial commitments

How SWEEF will tell these stories

Communications about women in development carry real risk for the people they depict. These commitments govern what gets published.

  • Informed consent for every named person and identifiable photograph, given freely and revocable.
  • No poverty framing. Women are depicted as producers, traders and decision-makers, which is what they are.
  • Do-no-harm review before publication, because visibility of income can create risk for a woman in her own household or community.
  • No composite or invented individuals, and no stock photography presented as a participant.
  • Failures published too: interventions that underperform are documented alongside those that succeed.
